CEO and Founder of the Behavior Analyst Certification Board®, Inc. (BACB®)

Dr. Shook is Chief Executive Officer and Founder of the Behavior Analyst Certification Board®, Inc.  He holds a Ph.D. in Psychology from Western Michigan University and is a Board Certified Behavior Analyst -Doctoral with over 40 years experience in behavior analysis. Dr. Shook has taken an active role in developing certification in several states, as well as nationally, and has published and presented extensively in the area of certification and Behavior Analysis as a profession.  He conducted statewide distance education university graduate training in a number of states and consulted nationally on development of statewide behavioral service and training systems. He held faculty appointments at the State University of New York College at Buffalo and Georgetown University; and adjunct appointments at Auburn, Oklahoma State, and Florida State Universities.  He currently holds adjunct appointments in the College of Education and Graduate College at Penn State. Dr. Shook was on the Board of Directors of the Association for Science in Autism Treatment and was on the Executive Council of the Association for Behavior Analysis International, where he also was Coordinator of the Legislative and Public Affairs Committee and the Affiliated Chapters Board. He was President of the Florida Association for Behavior Analysis and has been on the Editorial Board of The Behavior Analyst and the Journal of Organizational Behavior Management.  Dr. Shook is a Trustee of the Cambridge Center for Behavioral Studies, on the Board of Directors of the Association of Professional Behavior Analysts, and a Fellow and Chairman of the Fellow Selection Committee of the Association for Behavior Analysis International. He received the Florida Association for Behavior Analysis’ Award for Outstanding Service; the California Association for Behavior Analysis’ Award for Outstanding Contributor to Behavior Analysis; The Society for the Advancement of Behavior Analysis’ Outreach Award and Award for Public Service; and the Outstanding Alumni Award from Western Michigan University.

Maria Lynn Kessler, Ph.D.
Associate Professor at OIT, Program Director of the Applied Psychology Program

Dr. Kessler teaches behavior modification courses at OIT where she has been a professor since January, 2003.  She obtained a MS in Behavior Analysis and Therapy from Southern Illinois University and a PhD in Psychology from Florida State University where she studied under Dr. Jon S. Bailey.  Dr. Kessler has worked with a variety of populations in many settings including: Developmental Disabilities, Child Abuse/Neglect, and Organizational Behavior Management.

OUR MISSION:

• The Oregon Association for Behavior Analysis is an organization for professionals, parents, caregivers, educators, researchers and others who are interested in promoting the field of behavior analysis within the community.  The association plans on fulfilling this purpose by the following:
• Encourage the understanding of all aspects of behavior analysis (e.g., the experimental analysis of behavior, applied behavior analysis, and radical behaviorism) in universities, schools, and community settings by encouraging competent practice, providing a forum for behavior analysts to gather and share information, and disseminating information on behavior analysis to the community.
• Supporting the design and application of evidence based practices to improve the quality of life of the citizens of Oregon.
• Serving as a professional reference group for those who identify themselves as scientists or practitioners in disciplines that embrace the principles and practices of behavior analysis.
• Advising political, legislative, and policy-making bodies with respect to all matters pertaining to behavior analysis.
• Promote the Behavior Analyst Certification Board as the appropriate body for credentialing practitioners of Applied Behavior Analysis in the state of Oregon.
• Maintaining a website containing information about the organization as well as resources pertaining to behavior analysis.

Group Discussion: Ethical Issues in the Practice of Behavior Analysis

Professionals, parents, students, and others interested in the practice of behavior analysis are invited to join in a group discussion on ethical issues encountered during practice. Everyone will be encouraged to share personal experiences and raise ethical questions particularly in regards to practicing within the state of Oregon.
This discussion group is meant to facilitate communication about the challenges of practice and influence decision making to maintain the highest standard of care.

Circumstances require that the meeting be cancelled. The hope is to reschedule Dr. Anderson's talk later this year.

Presenter: Cynthia M. Anderson, Ph.D. , Associate Professor of School Psychology,
Director of the UO School Psychology Program

Dr. Anderson joined the faculty at University of Oregon in 2005, after spending six years on the faculty in the Behavior Analysis program at West Virginia University. She is a graduate of an APA accredited program in Psychology. Dr. Anderson, Director of the School Psychology Program, works closely with the research group at UO's Educational and Community Supports Center, where she is involved in projects related to function-based support of problem behavior and positive behavior support in schools. Dr. Anderson’s teaching interests include Behavioral Assessment, Behavioral Consultation, Interventions for Child Behavior Disorders, Behavioral Theory. Her research interests include Functional assessment and functionally-derived interventions, systems change, durability and generality of interventions.
